Ashley Walk is the location of an important and secret WWII Bombing Range. Various bombs rockets & artillery were tested against a wide range of targets, many of which can still be seen on the Range today.
The most famous weapons tested here include the Tallboy and Grand Slam earthquake bombs plus Upkeep and Highball bouncing bombs. Upkeep was the bouncing bomb used in the famous Dambusters raids. Highball was carried by Mosquito bombers:
